How to Treat Menopause Naturally Without Estrogen Drugs

Eat a healthy diet, limit coffee and alcohol as it can increase hot flashes. Obviously, spicy and hot foods and beverages make hot flashes worse.

Exercise daily. Exercise has been shown to reduce menopausal symptoms. This means 1/2 hour of increased heart rate and sweat, not just a long walk!

Do yoga or meditation. Remember that hot flashes are an exaggerated response to our body’s normal rushes of adrenaline. The relaxation techniques of yoga can teach you how to suppress part or all of your body’s response to those rushes.

Practice common sense tips such as dressing in layers and having a fan by your desk can help.

Manage stress. Stress can make menopause symptoms much worst. Yoga and meditation are effective way to control and limit the effect stress has on your mind and body.

Humour and laughter. Laughing is good medicine. Get together with friends that are funny. Watch comedies.

Study herbal products with some skeptism. Herbal products have shown mixed results in clinical research. The most evidence exists for the phytoestrogenic isoflavones in soy and red clover as well as black cohosh and St. John’s wort. Read product labels carefully.

* Provera, Depo-provera, medroxyprogesterone, and the progestins in birth control pills are NOT the same thing as natural progesterone; they are NOT chemically identical to your body’s progesterone (natural progesterone is) and can sometimes worsen symptoms rather than decreasing them. If you want to supplement with progesterone, make sure it IS progesterone.
